119 Beechwood Drive

Nestled between Prime Rockridge and Upper Rockridge is one of Oakland’s most desirable and exclusive neighborhoods, Claremont Pines. The land comprising the neighborhood (approximately 51 acres) was initially purchased in 1909 by Mr. Philip E Bowles to build a home for himself and his wife.  Their home (The Pines Estate) was built in 1910 on what is now Bowling Drive. In  October of 1927, a year after Phillip Bowles died,  Mrs. Bowles sold the entire estate including the 51 acres to the York Company, Inc.  All but the home was subdivided into a new subdivision which we now call Claremont Pines.The homes subsequently built throughout the 1920s – 1950s were primarily stately Traditional and Spanish homes.  Several of the residences were rebuilt following the 1991 Oakland Hills fire. Acacia Avenue residents worked together to ensure the beauty of their street would be maintained with the new construction post-fire. In general, the homes in Claremont Pines are sited on larger parcels with lawns, terraced gardens and many enjoy stunning Bay Views. All views are unobstructed by any wiring since the neighborhood undergrounded wiring after the 1991 fire. Its streets are all residential and distinguished by the old fashioned street lamps.
